About the event

As part of our Forestry project, we are coming up with our serial Rural Afforestation Project, starting in the Central Region, with our first event in Abura Bando in the Abura-Asebu Kwamankese district. 22nd June being the World Rainforest Day, our event is set to kick start on that day, lasting for three days of advocacy, public education, film show, workshop, practical, planting of Trees for mini-forest initiation.

Abura Bando is a small village with farming as the main occupation in the village. The village used to pride itself with several forests until the trees were gradually cut down, without replacement, one after the other. Individuals who planted trees started cutting them down for charcoal. This has affected the farming progress in the village, due to the harms of deforestation.

This event aims to have mini-forests within the village, with time-to-time visitation, to restore the fertility of the soil.
